Veteran singer Dr James “Jimmy Cliff” Chambers is taking the month off to recover from a hip injury. This is according to his management team, who broke the news late last month that Cliff would be unable to fulfil show commitments in October after being hospitalised.

“We are sorry to inform you that Jimmy Cliff will not be able to perform his October shows 2018. Unfortunately, he broke his hip and he is in hospital recovering from the injury. We will keep you posted,” read a message by Cliff's team on his Facebook page.

“We would like to thank you warmly for your messages of support to Jimmy Cliff. This gives him great strength to recover in good conditions. Jimmy is in rehab; he's fine. Bless you,” a subsequent post read.

The 70-year-old recently concluded a summer tour of countries including Austria, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, and France. While it is uncertain as to when and where he will resume touring, fans have been sending nothing but love and well wishes to the singer.

Referencing a line from Cliff's Many Rivers to Cross, Robert Singh commented, “Do what you have to do to recover brother. You are just crossing one of those many rivers, but you will find your way across.”

“He is one of the most energetic, agile performers I've ever seen. If anyone can bounce back, it's Jimmy,” commented Suzanne Devine.

Others like Oladiran Olarewaju advised that Cliff take it easy at this stage in his career.

“Jimmy has to slow down a little bit. Age is not very much on his side anymore as he's getting fragile. Wishing you a rapid recovery. Stay lifted,” Olarewaju commented.

A native of Somerton in St James, Jimmy Cliff began making music as a child. He rose to international prominence in 1972 with the Jamaican film The Harder They Come in which he starred as the troubled musician Ivan. The movie's soundtrack includes some of Cliff's most successful records like You Can Get It (If You Really Want) and Wonderful World, Beautiful People.
